When I pulled out the hotswap drive, the orange light for the drive briefly came on, then went off. The green network light is on, but the green ok light is not on. The device, the actual HP MV2010 has died. Because I mirrored the drive in a raid, when I replaced the faulty drive I was able to get the MV up and running. They could not recover the data because of the encryption or OS, or whatever the HP Media Vault uses. Unfortunately, a few years back when I experienced my first drive failure I took the device to have the data recovered. In the past if a drive failed it would have a high pitch ring.
